Ravage

My homeland has been ravaged.
The throbbing, the sobbing, the drowned.
Broken bones and bruised organs.
Dehydration, degradation abound.

My homeland has been savaged.
The aching, breaking, crunching sound.
Claw marks run down my back.
Broken glass sullies the ground.

My homeland must be salvaged.
The clean-up, the seal up, the rot.
Gather the herbs, the tonics, the gauze.
Repair’s vital, only home I’ve got.

My homeland, I beg your forgiveness.
These trespasses, too much to bear.
I’ve broke you, burned you, befouled you.
My own hand brought such despair.
